Trevor Hinton
A patina on the surface of an object is a film which is produced over time. Patina is also used to describe the changes in texture or colour that come from everyday usage of an object, like a sideboard, table or cabinet.
Patination can best be described as the natural aging process of an object. When an object like an antique table has its patination intact it is more valuable. If the patina is damaged in any way, such as scratched, cracked or broken, it can be repaired. This process is known as repatination.
Repatination work is skilled and time consuming, but well worth doing, as it will increase the value of your piece.
• Having matched the colour in the wood or the paint I then patinate and age the wood or the paint to match the rest of the piece using techniques I have perfected over the years.
